KANSAS CITY, Mo., (Dec. 1, 2023) – The Research Foundation has awarded $21,650 in scholarships to allied health students studying radiation therapy, radiologic technology, and nuclear medicine technology in the Kansas City region.
Eligible students were enrolled in the Penn Valley Community College School of Radiology, Research Medical Center School of Radiology, Research Medical Center School of Nuclear Medicine Technology, University of Kansas Medical Center Nuclear Medicine Certificate Program, and Washburn University Radiation Therapy Certificate Program.
Washburn University Radiation Therapy Certificate Program student Camryn Frazier was awarded a $2,400 scholarship, which is provided by the Therapeutic Radiologist Endowment Fund established through The Research Foundation.
Nuclear Medicine Technology students were each given a $1,000 scholarship. Scholarship recipients from the University of Kansas Medical Center Nuclear Medicine Program include Victoria Porter and Aspen Wiedmer. Scholarship recipients from the Research Medical Center School of Nuclear Medicine Technology include Hannah Ballard, Sarah Gurley, Kyndalyn Lewis, and Alexander Scheuer. Nuclear medicine technology scholarships totaled $6,000.
Radiologic technology scholarships totaled $13,250. Scholarship recipients at the Penn Valley Community College School of Radiology were each awarded a $1,000 scholarship. They include Elizabeth Fritch and Brooke Schorr. Scholarship recipients at the Research Medical Center School of Radiology were also each awarded a $1,000 scholarship. They include Karina Hermosillo, Cara McClain, Chaise Miller, Allison Pelger, Michaela Precht, Malia Shinkle, Skyler Shuffield, Chloe Spencer, Clarice Wolford, and Emily Woydziak.
Madison Burlington was awarded the Sarah Wilson Thompson Scholarship. The Sarah Wilson Thompson Scholarship was established in 1999 in memory of Sarah Wilson Thompson, a graduate of the Radiologic Technology Program at Research Medical Center. Sarah lost her battle with lymphoma shortly after completing the program. After her death, employees and friends created a scholarship fund in her memory. This fund helps future students who want to pursue the field of radiologic technology that Sarah was dedicated to during her life. The Research Foundation supports a student each year with a scholarship. It is the highest honor the foundation awards to radiologic technology students.
