Leave a Legacy

You don’t have to make a large gift during your lifetime to leave a lasting legacy.

Judy D. Cordell Frueh 1986 Scholarship

Judy Frueh

The Judy D. Cordell Frueh 1986 Scholarship Fund was established through The Research Foundation with a $25,000 donation from Judy Frueh. Judy is a 1986 graduate of Research College of Nursing and has made charitable contributions to The Research Foundation for decades.

Judy came to Research College of Nursing from a small, rural community. Going to school in Kansas City as a first-generation student was a big deal. She struggled financially, but instructors and financial aid staff helped guide her through the process and find scholarships to apply for financial assistance.

She was able to stay in school because of the scholarships she received and is proud of her persistence. It was a stressful period, but she gained perspective during her experience.

“You should never think a job is too beneath you. Bedpan duty is just as important as hanging an IV. You should always be a team player. In nursing, you get the opportunity to care for so many different people, different cultural backgrounds, and different challenges. Always meet people where they are and have a kind and open heart. It is an honor when people trust you enough to be vulnerable with their concerns and fears. Respect and treasure that gift.”

Now, Judy wants to pay it forward. She has dreamt of helping others in the same way her scholarships helped her. So, she has invested in future nurses who need financial help by establishing a scholarship through The Research Foundation. Her hope? The recipients become successful, compassionate nurses who are a blessing to those they care for.
