
KANSAS CITY, Mo., (Jan. 31, 2025) – The Research Foundation has launched a new scholarship opportunity for licensed practical nursing (LPN) students who reside in Jackson County, Missouri. The foundation has also opened its scholarship applications for traditional nursing and doctoral physical therapy students accepted into select regional programs.
The foundation is offering these new scholarships to support local students pursuing their License in Practical Nursing (LPN) to alleviate barriers and support training for quality nurses in the Kansas City community. Awards will range from a minimum of $1,000 to a maximum of $3,500. Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student in the LPN programs at Cass Career Center in Harrisonville, Missouri, Donnelly College in Kansas City, Kansas, Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, Kansas City Kansas Community College in Kansas City, Kansas, or Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouri. Applicants must also be residents of Jackson County, Missouri, with a preference given to those who reside in Kansas City, Missouri.
Nursing students accepted into the traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs at Avila University, Research College of Nursing, and William Jewell College and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 are eligible to apply for The Research Foundation’s traditional and transfer BSN scholarships. Nursing Accelerated Option and Nursing Accelerated Track students are not eligible to apply.
In 2024, The Research Foundation supported the education of 54 students by awarding $284,456 to nursing students enrolled at the three schools.
The Research Foundation is also accepting scholarship applications from students in enrolled in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs at Rockhurst University, the University of Kansas, or the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Eligible students must be entering their second year of the DPT program with a graduation date of December 2026 at Rockhurst University or May 2027 at the University of Kansas or University of Missouri-Columbia. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible to receive a scholarship.
The Research Foundation awarded $37,000 to Doctor of Physical Therapy students from the three schools in 2024.
All scholarships can only be applied to tuition. The deadline to apply for each scholarship is April 1. Students interested in applying can begin the application process at theresearchfoundationkc.org/scholarships.
